The primary advantage of titanium springs is, of course, improved suspension performance.   

 

As springs are rapidly compressed the material mass is displaced and generates momentum or inertia based on the product of the velocity and mass involved.  In demanding applications this can cause spring surge where the spring coils are moving in the opposite direction of the shock travel.  This can disrupt the performance of the suspension system and lower the ability of the suspension to follow the terrain and keep the wheel on the ground.  The less mass in the spring, the better performing the suspension will be.

 

Lower mass systems generate less inertia and accelerate faster allowing better "responsiveness".  Compared with steel springs, titanium springs have less mass and thus less inertia, helping the suspension to keep the wheel in contact with the ground, resulting in better traction and handling.    

 

And, utilizing titanium’s superior material properties, properly designed titanium springs minimize or eliminate spring “set” entirely.  When a spring takes a permanent set, often referred to as “lost spring memory”, the spring actually loses length.  To compensate for this “set”, the spring perches must be adjusted or spacers added to replace this lost length.  Additionally the available travel of the spring is reduced by any “set” that it takes. 

 

Titanium springs also offer about twice the service life of steel springs.

 

Racers using our Titanium Spring Sets have noticed a DRAMATIC reduction in front wheel chatter and therefore were able to hold a tighter line which, in turn, allowed them to carry more corner speed.

 

These titanium springs have a low friction coating applied to them.  The set comes with collars and spacers that are matched to the spring (these springs can not be used with the standard Honda collars or spacers).
